Digital Camera / Telescope Photography

The image of the Lighthouse above was taken at the Seabird Observatory.  This is Altnacarry (east light) on Rathlin Island – some 16 miles SW of Machrihanish…

That’s Digiscoping!!!

Digiscoping is the art of acquiring digital photographic images by attaching a digital camera to, or holding it firmly against, the eyepiece of a spotting telescope.

The images in our Photo Gallery were taken by this method using a Nikon Coolpix 995 digital camera attached to a Swarovski 80 HD telescope with a 20X wide angle lens.  The cameras optical zoom was often set at max X3 giving a massive high-magnification of 60X!

To find out much more about the whole concept of digiscoping you should visit the following websites…

Much information on digital cameras, spotting scopes, shooting techniques & other necessary equipment will be found at these websites.

Open daily from Easter to the end of October
